Homecoming!

Happy Sunday to all of you as you begin to greet your day filled with possibilities!
As you know, Madelyn was released from ICU on Tuesday afternoon and has been adjusting to her life at home beautifully!

The first night home was dedicated to family as they all camped out around Maddy's hospital bed in the living room. I can imagine that all the kitties and doggies were able to cuddle up as well. What a wonderful way to spend your first night home, surrounded by family.

Madelyn continues to become stronger each day as she works on her physical therapy, goes for walks, and has her school lessons. Her life is filled with possibilities!
She has proven to us that miracles are more than possible, they are reality!
She has proven to us that beating the odd are possible!
Possibilities are endless for Madelyn and I believe that it is our support and love that fills her with strength for continue pushing forward. Endless possibilities await you Madelyn!

We are also very proud of her sister, Mallory. Mallory showed us all that it was possible to be strong while her sister was fighting for her life. Mallory is a fighter as well and we are so very proud of her too. In fact, in yesterdays soccer game, Mallory scored the only....and winning GOAL!!! Way to go Mallory!

On a side note, many of you have inquired about wanting to help or asking, what can I do? First, you have all done so, SO much! We appreciate each of you who prayed, fed, loved, and cared for us thought about Madelyn over the past 7 weeks. Thank you!

Our dear friend Kat is running Maddy's Miracle Marathon and is taking donations to support Madelyn medical-physical therapy & rehabilitation cost. Please feel free to email me directly with questions. sharlaflock@yahoo.com.
Thank you once again for all of your care and love. We could not have made it through this without you and our hearts overflow with gratitude for you.

So, here's to our lives being filled with love and possibilities for wonderful things to come to us. Our Miracle Maddy has given us all a little bit of hope to hold onto in life and I truly believe that anything is now possible!

* Freedom for Kitty Girl Johnson *

Look out your window! Take a moment to drink in the feeling that Spring brings. The feeling of hope for tulips blooming, the freshness in the air, the warm summer nights filled with the smells of barbecue and fresh cut grass that await us...and Madelyn.

Take a moment to remember back 6 weeks ago today. Remember the feeling of sorrow that seemed to drench your souls as we first heard of Madelyn's health crisis. I remember the first 3,4,5 days of not knowing is she would live as the doctors could not offer us that hope. The pain that washed over our family seemed to never end. Today, the pain has been replaced with gratitude. Gratitude for Madelyn's life that was spared. Gratitude for the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, and the child life staff who cared for Madelyn. Gratitude for each of you who held on to hope, prayed day and night, and offered us your love in so many heartfelt ways. We thank you, Family.

Today Madelyn most likely will be able to leave the ICU and go home. It fills my heart with the greatest, most true feeling of love and appreciation I have ever known. Madelyn is alive!!! Madelyn is our Miracle!!! Madelyn, thank you for never-ever stopping in your fight. You may never truly understand what you went through, but know that you are amazing. You Rock! 143

Mallory too is an incredible kid who is filled with the same strength that her sister holds. The kind of strength that has held us together as a family. Mallory is the best medicine for her sister and I am so happy that the Johnson girls are reunited and looking forward to sleeping together under the same roof.

Here's to Spring and all good things that await Madelyn. May her health continue to improve with each passing day and bring with is laughter & happiness.
Here's to Spring filled with hope! Filled with Joy! Filled with Gratitude for Madelyn!
Our Miracle is going home soon!

* Once Madelyn is home, no visitors will be allowed for a while per the doctors instructions. We are so appreciative of your care and concern, but simply cannot risk Madelyn's health. The Johnson family needs time, quality un-interrupted time to reconnect as they ease into their new routine in caring for Maddy at home. We thank you for respecting the doctors advice and Madelyn's need for quiet time. Thank you.

*As of noon today, Madelyn will be on her way HOME!

*** Now for the conclusion of Kitty Girl Johnson & The Whirlwind of Illness....

“Ladies & Gentlemen, Round 10 is heating up with Whirlwind of Illness on his feet again! ( The crowd is on it’s feet once again, covering their eyes ) fearing what will come next for Kitty Girl Johnson.

Just then, Acrobat Alice, Pins & Needles Penny, and Loudmouth Leo explode onto the mat! They are one, big ‘ole ball of spaghetti & meatballs! They are slipping! They are sliding! They are sliding right into the Whirlwind of Illness! It looks as though they may just take the Whirlwind of Illness out!

Vallory Van Vohnson joins in as she lays down yet another powerful guitar riff on her magical guitar and Kitty Girl Johnson is vibrating her way across the mat with the help of her vibrating vest. This round is looking more like a circus than a fight, Ladies & Gentlemen!

Kitty Girl seems to have thrown something at the Whirlwind of Illness! What?!?!!? HUH?!?!? It looks like, ….. like her trach!!!!
Kitty Girl Johnson has just landed THE punch of all punches here at the Sacred Heart Dome, Ladies & Gentlemen. The trach-throw punch is the most lethal of all punches!

**ME*0oo00WwwwZzZaaAAa**

The Whirlwind of Illness if DOWN!!!!!! 1…...2…...3…..4……5…….
( the crowd explodes in triumph! )

**ME*O00ooOoWWwZzzaaaAAa**

The Whirlwind of Illness is DOWN!! Kitty Girl Johnson has defeated the evil Whirlwind of Illness in this Round 10 Knock Out!!!

**ME*00ooOoWwwZzzAaa**

( the crowd is on it’s feet chanting, KITTY GIRL * KITTY GIRL * )
The energy in the Sacred Heart Dome is electric!

WHAT!?!? What is Kitty Girl doing?!??!!? ( the crowd seems stunned! )
Ladies & Gentlemen, I can’t believe my eyes!?!!? Kitty Girl Johnson looks to be helping the Whirlwind of Illness up to his feet! ( the crowd gasps! ) What is SHE doing!?!?!
She has already defeated him, why, WHY would she be helping him to his FEET?!?!?

It looks like she is trying to give him a…A..a...hug!?! Ladies & Gentlemen, I have never seen anything like this!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!

Just then, in a blink of an eye, * Poof * the Whirlwind of Illness transforms into a beautiful butterfly and gently lands on the tips of Kitty Girl Johnson’s nose. Kitty Girl Johnson examines the butterfly and now appreciates his beauty as he he begins to float through the air towards to doors of the Sacred Heart Dome.

As Kitty Girl begins to leave the Sacred Heart Dome, her fans must follow her, just as she follows the beautiful butterfly dance through the air. There goes Acrobat Alice, Pins & Needles Penny, & Loudmouth Leo…followed by Vallory Van Vohnson & Cocoa Puff. Daisy Duke the Dancing Dog and Betty Sue Moo are joining in as, Mrs. Onstot and Ms. Johnson grab a few brownies & bingo cards as they too join the crowd. Kitty Girl’s coaches, Dr. Lee, Nurse Sarah, Barnyard Bernhard, and Nurse Tara join in just as they are exiting the Sacred Heart Dome. Ladies & Gentlemen, this is turning into some kind of incredibly wacky parade! The crowd continues to grow in size as they watch in awe of their beloved Kitty Girl.

As the doors to the Sacred Heart Dome fly open, Kitty Girl freezes! The crowd freezes! The Butterfly seems to be trying to tell her something as he fights to leave her side.
Kitty Girl holds out her finger as the butterfly lands. They have a moment, a moment of complete silence. No sound of birds. No sound of traffic. Not even the sound of the crowd. Just then, Kitty Girl speaks.
“ Thank you Whirlwind of Illness. Thank you for letting me defeat you! I will never forget you, but I set you free. Free to not harm another child. Free from the Sacred Heart Dome. Free to Fly Free"

Kitty Girl Johnson is now Free, just like the Whirlwind of Illness to float through her days, days filled with life! Every time you see a butterfly, take a moment to think of Madelyn, Kitty Girl Johnson, our miracle!

Laughter Returns to Sacred Heart

Madelyn is doing wonderfully today, off oxygen for most of the day thus far and is looking forward to going home soon. Her Dad called me this morning, laughing at the bruise I accidentally caused on Maddy's forehead. Yes, Laughter filled his voice! And no, Maddy is not hurt. Just a little Auntie Sharla war wound that will pass.

While in the beginning, we never could have imagined that laughter would be ours at Sacred Heart. Our souls were filled with sorrow and sadness, not knowing if Maddy would survive. Our Madelyn has defied the odds and lived! She has not only lived, but is healing faster than most ever thought possible. Now laughter fills our days again with an extra sense of joy as we are able to celebrate with Madelyn as she nears the day when she is able to return home!

We can laugh at the little things like the "Sponge Bob Zone." It's a new condition the girls have developed while at Sacred Heart. It's very serious. It's caused by watching so much Sponge Bob that they become entranced. They can't seem to hear us anymore once Sponge Bob comes on! It's really serious!

Or squirting Barnyard Berhnard when he pops in for a breathing treatment. Again, laughter fills our room.

Or being reminded by Dr. Lee that we are in a hospital as we clap & cheer when Maddy's got her trach out. Again, laughing at ourselves for being so loud and boisterous!

Laughter truly is the best medicine and I am grateful that our days are once again filled with happy times. So many happy days await Madelyn & Mallory, and for our entire family.

Thank you, each of you, who have prayed for Maddy. Madelyn is a survivor and I am grateful that she is alive and doing so incredible well. Thank you for caring not only about us, but for us. We are truly the luckiest people to have you in our lives. We also want to especially thank the entire staff at Sacred Heart who have cared for Madelyn. Maddy is alive in great part to you and your love for what you do. You may never truly understand the comfort you have given us, but know that we are eternally grateful for you and the excellent care you have provided Madelyn.

Let's celebrate with Madelyn! Celebrate her incredible recovery! Celebrate that is she is a Miracle, our Miracle! It's time to Celebrate Madelyn Johnson!

The Johnson Girls Rock!

The Johnson girls are AMAZING! Madelyn is continuing to do an excellent job in her recovery process as she continues to go on stints of no oxygen, while Mallory scored TWO goals yesterday in her soccer game! Way to go Johnson Girls!!!

The girls played last night, just like the good ole' days and were truly able to enjoy each others company. Madelyn continues to eat well and was able to enjoy some yummy pie and taco bell. MMMmmmmm..... It was a special treat for Maddy for sure.

This morning Madelyn was able to join us at breakfast in the cafeteria and walked all the way back up to her room! OFF OXYGEN! With her sats staying right around the high 80's and low 90's the whole time. Really incredible! She is so strong and doesn't even realize it!

The other super incredible nugget of information is that Madelyn is having her trach removed this morning!!!! I have to fly out this morning and Maddy wanted to have it removed before I left. I have tears welling up in my eyes as I write this because I am so overjoyed with this landmark event. This means that Madelyn is truly ready to move forward and prepare to move home! I can fly with a little more peace in my heart knowing that she is on her way. Our butterfly has emerged from her cocoon and has taken flight.

**As of 10:30 this Beautiful Sunday Morning out Madelyn no longer has her trach!!!!
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!! AMEN!!!!!

Continued thanks to all of you who continue to keep Maddy in your love and prayers. Your support is so very comforting and we appreciate each of you. Thank you!

So, as you move through your day please take a moment to think of Madelyn and all of the obstacles she has had to endure and overcome. Her strength is inspiring and I for one have learned so much from just watching her fight. Madelyn is alive today because of the tenacity she has for living!

Let's celebrate this achievement with Madelyn today. This truly is a special day for her, and for each of us as we are filled with love and pride for her....and a sigh of relief that Madelyn is alive and becoming stronger each day!
Madelyn, You Rock!

Easing On Down the Road....

Madelyn is continuing to ease on down the road to recovery as she was able to venture out to the Healing Garden yesterday at Sacred Heart. What an incredible thing for Maddy to do! To see Water Skippers dancing along the ponds edge to the forsythia tress in an explosion yellow blossoms. To be able to take a moment to take in the sights and smells of Spring! Oh, what a happy day!

Madelyn continues to be in ICU and is enjoying the fact that her room is big enough for her family to hang out in while she watches tv or naps. She is eating softer foods on her own still and is able was able to enjoy a nibble of a Snicker doodle cookie yesterday. MMmmm...... She is still on oxygen, which will be the case for a while, but overall she is continuing to kick-butt! Way to go Maddy!!! They also changed her trach to a smaller tube once again, which is also a positive step in the right direction. And, when we ventured to the Healing Garden, her sats stayed in the high 90's. Awesome!

Madelyn's road to recovery is filled with love, prayers, and so many amazing people that is it no wonder she is excelling at this. Just like everything she and her sister do. They do it with determination, determination to be the best!
Her journey on this road to recovery started out as a wild ride for sure, but now we are thrilled that she seems to be at ease with the process. She is such a fighter in so many ways and I am thrilled to see how far she has come!

Many continued thanks for everything you do. It's really incredible how one kid can pull out the best in all of us. It's because she is one, amazing, loving kid and her supporters are a reflection of this. Amazing! Thank you!!!!!

As we ease through our Friday and look forward to our weekend ahead. Please remember to keep Madelyn in your thoughts and prayers. Although she is doing wonderfully well, she still has hurdles to jump in her recovery process and we want her to know how proud we are and how much we support her! Keep up the Awesome job!!!!

** Now for the continuing adventure of Kitty Girl Johnson

"Ladies & Gentlemen, when we last met Kitty Girl Johnson was battling the Whirlwind of Illness with the help from Loudmouth Leo, Vallory Van Vohnson, and Daisy Duke the dancing dog. The crowd were on their feet chanting KITTY GIRL, KITTY GIRL. The Sacred Heart Dome was a wild place indeed! The air is super-charged with excitement as they cheer on their beloved Kitty Girl as she takes down the evil Whirlwind of Illness!

OH NO!!!! Whirlwind of Illness is on his feet again!!!! He has is wearing some kind of super power vest that, that.....seems to Vibrate, Ladies & Gentlemen! I have never seen anything like that! What on earth!?!?! It seems as though the more the vest vibrates, the STRONGER he becomes! I can't watch Ladies & Gentlemen!
( the crowd are once again on their feet, mouths gaping! )

Just then! Out of the blue comes Mrs. Onstot & Ms. Johnson from Hamblen! What DO they have???? IS it??? Could it BE???? It looks like loads of spaghetti & brownies...and BINGO cards!!! They knew that Kitty Girl & Vallory Van Vohnson were going to need nourishment as they begin Round 10. Oh thank goodness!!! Kitty Girl was beginning to looked pooped since the evil Whirlwind of Illness ate all of the Powerful Popsicles! OH! It looks like Acrobat Alice, Loudmouth Leo, and Pins & Needles Penny all think the spaghetti is for them!!! TO PLAY WITH!!!!! This could get messy, Ladies & Gentlemen!

Kitty Girl Johnson is on her feet!!!! She ripped off the vent!!! She pulled out her feeding tube!!!! Ladies & Gentlemen, she is like the Incredible Hulk!!! She is SO powerful!!! SO strong!! The Whirlwind of Illness is shaking in his boots! And, it's not from the vibrating vest! **ME**0oooWwwZzzAAAaa**** Kitty Girl just body slammed the Whirlwind of Illness! Ouch! That's gotta hurt! WHAT?!!?? She seems to be trying to rip the vest off of the Whirlwind of Illness! And, it looks like she is succeeding!
Way to go Kitty Girl! Now, Kitty Girl has the vest on!!!! She's vibrating like a jumping bean Ladies & Gentlemen! She's bouncing. She's bobbing. She bouncing right over the top of the Whirlwind of Illness! LOOK OUT!!!!!

**DING-DING : Ladies & Gentlemen, it's the top of Round 10 and Kitty Girl Johnson is dancing around the ring with her powerful vibrating vest as the Whirlwind of Illness is looking pretty haggard. Will this be the End?????
Kitty Girl Johnson just landed yet another powerful uppercut! **ME*O0ooWwZzaAaa**
Whirlwind of Illness is down once again Ladies & Gentlemen! 1....2....3....

OH NOOOooooo........ Whirlwind of Illness is out of control!!!! HE CAN'T!!! NO!!!!!

**Stay tuned for the continuing adventure.....

I've got the Power!

Each of us hold enormous power. Power to be able to do things that we might not have thought we could accomplish. Madelyn is, in my opinion, the the best example of personal power & strength. Madelyn was, by the assumption of many of her doctors back on March 10,11,12, 13...not expected to live. Madelyn, through her incredible personal strength has and is continuing to overcome the odds! She is breaking the rules and not stopping. She, is POWERFUL!

We, as a family...all of you...we are Powerful! We pray, we love, we care for, and we believed that Maddy would pull through this horrible ordeal. The power of prayer and positive thinking has gone so very far. It is powerful to witness and I am grateful that Madelyn has so many people who are so powerful in her life as well.

Power also comes in the form of little sisters. A little sisters who never complains that she is missing out on her normal life, only wanting to spend every free moment at the hospital so she can be near her sister, Madelyn. The power of love is strong!

Power is all the nurses and doctors who, in the beginning, were working around the clock trying to keep Madelyn alive. The time and care they have invested in Madelyn and our family is powerful. I speak for all of the Johnson-Flock's when I tell you how truly impressed we are by each of you Sacred Hearter's. You have done amazing work with Maddy. And, although we understand that much of her healing has to do with her own personal fight and determination. We also know that you never stopped trying! The power of medicine is alive at Sacred Heart.

Madelyn is still off the vent and continuing to kick butt! She is still on oxygen and will be for some time. She is still in ICU, but getting stronger everyday. She sat up again for most all of the day yesterday and was able to drink on her own, eat her own meals, AND got her feeding tube out!! This is awesome!! It must feel incredible to be able to begin to do the things you used to do. Way to go Mad!! Maddy was also able to enjoy some quite reading time, which we know is one of her favorite things to do. We are all so very happy for Maddy!

Again, many continued thanks for your love and support. We are a powerful group and it is because we have come together in the name of one powerful kid, Madelyn Johnson! Thank you for never giving up and for continuing to be there for us. You have no idea how much you have done. Thank you.

Now, let's head out and enjoy this day! Let's put some power into it!
And, all you Hamblen kids, as you take your WASL, do it with enthusiasm because Maddy would give anything to be able to take that stinky test.

Here's to the POWERFUL Madelyn Johnson!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Oh what a day! To be able to be outside and take in all the sights, sounds, and smells of Spring! Most of us don't think twice about this, but we should. It is a gift and each day we should remind ourselves of how fortunate we are to be apart of this wonderful day!

Madelyn was able to go outside in her cool wheelchair yesterday to take in the smells of Spring. This had to have been an amazing day for Maddy! It was for me just hearing of it. Maddy, just like her beloved butterflies, entered Sacred Heart in winter and was in her cocoon for a very long time. Now Maddy begins to emerge with the enthusiasm of a butterfly, dancing through the spring air, taking it all in! I can only begin to imagine how awesome it feels to be able to walk again, eat again, and talk again! So many wonderful things that are now coming back to Maddy. Madelyn, you are amazing!
You are our gift! You are my reminder that all things are possible! Way to Go Maddy!!

Madelyn is still in the ICU, but is making amazing progress. She is off her vent now, but still on oxygen. Yesterday she was able to have her trach closed off, with oxygen in her nose as she ventured outdoors. Really awesome! And.....she was able to eat her favorite home cooked meal....meatloaf & mashed potatoes! MMMmmmm......
Maddy is continuing to walk around and sat up in her chair most all of the day yesterday. Again, really good news for Maddy! Her lungs still have a way to go and need to clear up, but we will be patient. We are just so grateful of how far Maddy has come!

Many, many heartfelt continued thanks goes out to each of you who log on, care for, and pray. We all feel so very lucky to be surrounded by so much love and support. Love and support that has been a continual wave of prayers, food, cards, messages, balloons, pto time, and by just knowing that you are there for us. Thank you!

Let's go out and take a moment to really breathe in the fresh spring air for our Madelyn Johnson. Take a moment to listen to that bird or watch the butterfly in flight. Take a moment to remember that today is a gift, open it with the enthusiasm you had as a kid on Christmas morning and enjoy it all day long.

Chatty Maddy is making a comeback!

Happy Monday to all of you. I hope you had a lovely Easter with your friends and family!

Madelyn had a pretty good day yesterday, but at night she was up coughing quite a bit. Which is a good way for her to get the crud out of her lungs, but it's not good when she needs her rest. We ask that Maddy is allowed to have some quality quiet time with her family today. Please no visitors for a while until she can rest up. Thank you for being understanding and respectful of Madelyn's need of rest. It's most important that Madelyn is able to rest as much as she can so she can be well and go home.

Maddy continues to be off her vent and on oxygen today. Way to Go Maddy!!!!
She also is beginning to be able to talk again, which is the coolest!!! Her trach was changed, which allows her to speak in a whisper like tone. I was in tears yesterday as I was able to have a conversation with Maddy on the phone! SO COOL!!! I mean, SO Cool!!!!! Maddy Rocks!!!! Boy, those Johnson Girls are the greatest and I know that I am not alone in feeling very lucky to have these two girls on my life!

Special thanks again to all of you who make our days brighter with your heartfelt gestures. We truly appreciate your love and support. Thank you!

Here's to our chatty Maddy who will be talking all about bugs, butterflies, soccer, hamsters, motorcycles and all kinds of homework from here on out! I for one could not be happier! Keep up the awesome job Kitty Girl!!!!

*********

Now, for the continuing saga of The Whirlwind of Illness & Kitty Girl Johnson

"Ladies & Gentleman, when we last met Kitty Girl Johnson was kicking some major bootie with the help from Betty Sue Moo & Acrobat Alice, it looked like Whirlwind of Illness was down for good! 1....2.....3.....4........
OH NO!!!! Whirlwind of Illness has a secret weapon! He seems to have developed some super-duper strength from, WHAT! A Popsicle!!!! Somehow, Ladies & Gentlemen, it seems as though the Whirlwind of Illness got his grimy mitts on on of Cocoa Puffs Powerful Purple Popsicles! Oh NO!!! It can't be!!!! ( the crowd is again, on their feet covering their eyes! )
Just then, out of a cloud of pink glitter and rainbow smoke comes, YUP! You Guessed it Ladies & Gentlemen, Vallory Van Vohnson is BACK! And, it looks like she has brought backup with her this time! Who is THAT!?!?! Huh??? What??!? It looks like Daisy Duke, the Dancing Dog & Loudmouth Leo the CAT!!!! This time, Ladies & Gentlemen the Whirlwind of Illness will not be able to defend himself! Not, with this dynamic trio!
It looks like Vallory Van Vohnson is ready to lay down some more powerful riffs on her magical guitar while Daisy Duke & Loudmouth Leo sing & dance their way to the ring!
**ME*Ooo00WwZzzAaa** Kitty Girl Johnson has just landed a mighty uppercut as Whirlwind of Illness was mesmerized by the singing and dancing by Daisy Duke & Loudmouth Leo! This is amazing, Ladies & Gentlemen! Leo is starting to sing louder as Vallory Van Vohnson continues to rock the crowd with her stellar, magical-guitar playing skills!
( the crowd are on their feet, singing "We will, We will Rock YOU" We will, We Will Rock YOU! ) Ladies & Gentlemen, the crowd is really getting into this fight tonight!
They are not going to let Kitty Girl Johnson go down! The entire crowd at the Sacred Heart Dome is cheering her on! "KI*T*TY GIRL, KI*T*TY GIRL!" **Me0ooWWzzZzAaa**
Kitty Girl Johnson is on her feet, towering over the evil Whirlwind of Illness. Her strength is undeniable! She is on a Roll, Ladies & Gentlemen! Leo, Daisy Duke, and the famous Vallory Van Vohnson are in a Wild Musical Cat-Dance-Trance.....It's like nothing I have ever seen in my life, Ladies & Gentlemen.
Will this be the end of the Whirlwind of Illness? OR, does the evil doer have more tricks up his evil sleeve.
Stay tuned for the continuing adventure of Kitty Girl Johnson

Happy Easter, Happy Day!

Happy Easter Sunday to all of you. I hope this day finds you filled with love and appreciation for today. We all have so many things to be grateful for.

The Johnson girls continue to kick some butt! Mallory scored a goal in her soccer game yesterday and Madelyn lapped the nurses station in the ICU unit TWO times yesterday!!!! Whoo-Hoo!!!! Way to go Johnson Girls!!!
Madelyn's sprints are becoming increasingly long and they are working on taking her off her vent to see how she does. As of now, she has been off the vent for 28 hours!!!!! This is HUGE!!!She is still on oxygen and still needing to be suctioned, which helps get rid of all the gunk in her lungs, but she is making major progress! We are so very proud of Madelyn's accomplishments and we are also very proud that she has such a strong little sis to hang tough through all of this. keep up the AWESOME job Johnson Girls. You Rock!

This morning the Easter Bunny had made a special visit to the ICU ward and Madelyn & Mallory were surprised for sure! Lots of colorful filled eggs and special treats for special girls. This will forever be an Easter to remember. Oh, what a happy day!

Thank you once again for all of your continued love, support, prayers, food, gifts, cards, blog messages, and care. The Little Engine that Could....

Madelyn continues to chug along in her fight against all odds. She is much like the little engine that could....."I think I can, I think I can....I know I can, I know I can!!!" Whoo-Hooo!!!!!!! Go Maddy Go!!!! You are continuing to move forward and we are all cheering you on along the way.

Maddy had yet another good day yesterday. She walked again in physical therapy and continued to have sprints throughout the day. She cruised through the butterfly tunnel with her Mom, Dad, and physical therapist as well. We know how much Maddy loves butterflies, so this was a major positive for Mad. Being out of her room and w/ the butterflies! Yeah! She worked with her occupational and speech therapist, and worked in a quality nap or two. She still occupies the same bed in the ICU, but what I can tell you is that hands down, her room is the BEST! Nurses come in and take a moment to look at all of the cards, balloons, garland, and stuffed animals that seem to have taken over this once plain ICU room and even their faces light up! You cannot help but feel tons of love as you enter her room.

Today, they are going to try to change her trach. to a non-cuffed one to hopefully allow her to talk. We will have to wait and see as the day evolves. She will also moving up in her sprinting time to see how long she can last. Again, really big steps for our Maddy! She's one tough cookie though and I know she can do it! "I know I can, I know I can!"

I know that it is pretty hard for all of you to not be able to see Maddy and we also know that the day will soon come when you and Maddy will have some quality time together. Until that day, please share your thoughts through the blog. It's really a special thing for Maddy and it always brings a smile to her face. No visitors are allowed at this time in order to allow Madelyn to have time for all of her physical therapy, occupational, and speech therapy....and much needed rest. Thank you for understanding.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to check in with Maddy. We are so very lucky to have all of you out there supporting us in so many ways. Special thanks continue to go out to all of you Sacred Hearter's who continue to care for Maddy. She's in very good hands and it's because of you that she is here with us. Thank you!

Let's go out and greet our days with the zest Maddy has for life! It's the "I know I can!" attitude that is getting her through this. Way to Go Mad!
Whatever challenges await you today, take a moment to think about how a kick-butt, 11 year old named Madelyn would do it. She would Rock it! That's what I know for sure!

Madelyn, we know you can!!!!! 143

143

*Maddy wrote this special message:
" Hello, Today I am giving thanks to all of the nice nurses and people in the hospital. Thank you for being there for me."

Growing up, every night as we got ready for bed we would give our Mom & Dad three kisses. I think that it was because it meant, I. Love. You. 143
Now with Maddy unable to speak, we have worked out a wonderful way for her to tell us she loves us. 143.

I don't think that I can begin to put into words the way my heart feels when I am able to look into Maddy's big blue eyes. I can imagine that this feeling is 100 times greater for her Mom, Dad, & Sister. The feeling of love and the most sincere feeling of gratitude is overwhelming. She is alive and getting stronger each day. The feeling of pride I have is enormous.

Maddy continued to have sprints throughout the day, working her lungs to get them strong and cleared up. And, as many of you already know, she walked yesterday! It was truly amazing! Way to go Maddy!
Maddy is off to a wonderful start today! She's in physical therapy now working on walking and cruising around in her super cool wheelchair. Maddy is blowing us all away by her strength and determination! She Rocks!
Complete strangers, here at the hospital who have children in the ICU unit cheer her on as well. In fact, a woman just shared with me how cool it was to see her walk and commented on how very pretty she is with her big blue eyes and ponytails. I have to agree that our Maddy is quite the hot babe!

Another super cool surprise was in the cafeteria at Sacred Heart and there was Maddy's bright smile on a display poster! AWESOME! It sure did make Madelyn feel special. Thank you Sacred Heart!

Many continued thanks to all of you who continue to log on each day and share your special words of encouragement with Maddy and our family. It really does brighten Maddy's day and we are so appreciative. We also want to thank all of you who continue to pray and share your love with all of us. Thank you. And, thank you to those of you who continue to keep us fat & sassy with your yummy food and treats! Thank you!!!

Walking on Sunshine!!!!!

Again, we begin with a message written by Maddy for you.
"Today I got to ride around in a wheelchair. I went through the fish tunnel"

Maddy's is really tired this morning because she WALKED!!!! Not a few steps, but 124 feet!!!!! AMAZING!
Here is the video link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeGykpA1LKI
At this very moment she is off her vent on another sprint. The sprints are what they refer to as the time she is off her ventilator, but on oxygen. She had two, 2 hour sprints yesterday and she is starting today off in the right direction.

Currently, her sats are in the low 90's and we are very pleased with this.
Overall, she is doing remarkably well considering how damaged her lungs are. If you look at the x-ray's alone you would not think she was able to make the progress that she has. She's incredible!!!!

We thank you for your continued love, support, & prayers. We love all of your heartfelt messages and truly believe that it gives Maddy the inner strength to push harder to get well. Thank you. We would also like you to continue to keep another special person named Frida in your prayers. She is a 25 year old woman who is in ICU with the same condition as Maddy. We know how incredibly difficult this is and we send our prayer to her and her family.

Thank you to all of you. We can't imagine going through our days without having you in our lives. We thank you, Family!

Let's go out and Walk with our heads held high! Walk for Madelyn, Walk for everything thing that she has had to overcome, and the hurdles that await her. Walk with an extra pep in your step because you are thinking of Maddy!

**Now, for Maddy......

"When we last met, Betty Sue Moo had just body slammed the Whirlwind of Illness and was not looking as though she was ready to budge anytime soon. Kitty Girl Johnson was in great shape considering her opponent was down for the count! 1...2...3...4....

All of a sudden Whirlwind of Illness somehow kicked up his heels and booted ole' Betty Sue Moo right off of him. She bounced around that ring like a pin ball machine * Boing * Boing * Boucne * Boing * Poor Betty Sue Moo was making the worlds largest milkshake! This left poor Kitty Girl Johnson alone in her fight!

**VVvvvvRRRrOooooMMMmmmmm....VVRRoo000MMmmm......**</span> Oh. My. Goodness, Ladies & Gentlemen, It looks like a freaky cat on a freaky machine. VVvvRRrrooommmm......
It's Pins & Needles Penny with her razor sharp claws, perfect for inflicting pain onto the Whirlwind of Illness! Pins & Needles Penny Pops a wheelie and lands right onto of the Whirlwind of Illnesses big toe! Ouch! That's gotta hurt Ladies & Gentlemen!
Pins & Needles Penny jumps off her bike and pounces on the Whirlwind of Illnesses back.
PPpppppRRrrrr......PPPPrrrrrr....PPpPpppRRrrrrr......Pins & Needles Penny is going to town on the Whirlwind of Illness! PPPpprRRrrrr.....All I can see Ladies & Gentlemen are her little claws kneading up and down, up & down. PPppppRRrrrr......
Kitty Girl Johnson is able to walk right up to the Whirlwind of Illness, with her hands on her hips, and tell him this. " You are going down!!!! You are not going to beat me!!!! I'm going to continue to kick your butt and walk right out of this Sacred Heart Dome one of these days!!!!" ( the crowd explodes in applause! )

Just then! OH NO!!!!! I can't look! ( the crowd is on their feet once again with mouths gaping! )

What will happen next to Kitty Girl Johnson??!?!

Kitty Girl Johnson & Betty Sue Moo

I want to start today's' blog with a message, that was written by Maddy to you.

"Hi everybody! I am getting way better. My family has been sleeping here for a long time. Thanks for all of the cards, presents, and emails. I appreciate all of it!"

Madelyn is doing wonderfully today. She sat up in her wheel chair and was off her vent for two hours. Although she was still on her oxygen, which is great! She's doing wonderfully in her physical, speech, and occupational therapy too! Her numbers are continuing to stay strong and we could not be happier! That Maddy of ours is a fighter!!! She continues to amaze us each day with her strength!

We thank all of you for your continued support and prayers. Your messages make Maddy's day and is comforting for her to know that so many people love and care about her.
Thank you!!! I'm sure Maddy looks forward to the day when she can personally thank you, but until now I will help her with her messages to you.
Thank you for continuing to log on and share your words. It is appreciated greatly!

* On a side note, we ask for you to include a woman named Frida in your prayers. She is the girlfriend of my husband's co-worker who, just like our Madelyn, developed this rare infection including toxic shock syndrome and strep infection in her blood and is fighting for her life now as well. Maddy will be praying her her as well. Thank you.

Now, this is for Maddy!

************************************************

Welcome Back, Ladies & Gentlemen......

"Last time we tuned in, it was the bottom of Round 9 and Kitty Girl Johnson was about to pounce on the Whirlwind of Illness when all of a sudden, the crowd was on their feet...covering their eyes! It looked as though Whirlwind of Illness had gotten the better of Kitty Girl and he was just about ready to unleash his powerful body slam move!

"Oh! Look! UP there!!!!! Now, I have really seen everything!!! It looks like, a..A...A... COW tangled in balloons!!! Could it be!??! It looks like it's Maggie Moo's sister, Betty Sue Moo! Betty Sue & Maggie Moo were in the middle of a bake sale where there were selling their specialty ice cream & cow pies! MMmmmmm.... When Cocoa Puff sent yet another super-telepathic message alerting Betty Sue Moo that Kitty Girl was in trouble! Betty Sue Moo must have gotten tangled up in all of Kitty Girl's get well, dolphin, ladybug, and butterfly balloons while on her way to the Sacred Heart Dome here in Spokane. This, Ladies & Gentlemen is the first time I have EVER seen a cow fly! A pig, maybe....but, NEVER a COW!!!!! It's gonna take some quick thinking to get Betty Sue Moo down from there. Oh, wait! It's Cocoa Puff....on the back of Acrobat Alice! What are they going to do?!?!? It looks like Acrobat Alice is using her talented circus skills and has climbed up to reach Betty Sue Moo. It's as though they have a plan, Ladies & Gentlemen! Acrobat Alice has just leaped from the suspension cable and....OH!!!!!! ** POP**POP**POP**POP** Acrobat Alice is using her super sharp claws to pop all of the balloons!!!! Betty Sue Moo is staring to rapidly fall from the ceiling of the Sacred Heart Dome! I can't look!!!!!!! ( the crowd Gasp! )
But wait! What?!? Ladies & Gentlemen.....Betty Sue Moo is falling hard...and fast!! It looks like she is going to land herself right on top of the Whirlwind of Illness!!!! Now this, Ladies & Gentlemen, is what I call UDDERLY AWESOME!!!!!

**ME***O0o0ZzzAaaa**!!! Kitty Girl Johnson, with the help from Betty Sue Moo has just landed THE body slam, of all body slams Ladies & Gentlemen! I have never seen anything like this in the history of fighting! Kitty Girl's Coach, Dr. Lee is doing cartwheels around the ring he is SO impressed by Kitty Girl's skills! **ME**O0ooWWwwZZzzAAaa****

Ladie's & Gentlemen, Whirlwind of Illness is still down....1...2...3...4.....
Betty Sue Moo won't budge! Will this be the end for Whirlwind of Illness!?!??! Will Kitty Girl Johnson continue to reign as the all-time boxing champion of the world???!??!

*Stay tuned as the Adventures of Kitty Girl Johnson continues...

Strength

Madelyn continues to show us how truly strong she is. Her strength, both physically and emotionally, is what is getting her through this. She pulls from each of the people she encounters, whether through her nurse who adjusts her meds or you, at home, logging in and sharing your heartfelt thoughts. Her parents and Sister, Mallory are also sharing their continue strength and love, which feeds her soul and truly comfort her and lets her know that she's doing an awesome job! I believe that it also gives her permission to keep up in her fight and understand that her family has never been prouder to call her daughter, sister, granddaughter, or niece.

Yesterday, Maddy was able to be off her vent for a two-hour period, still on oxygen though to help her out. She was also able to sit up, which was wonderful for her.
Her numbers continue to show improvement each day and we are in awe at her strength!

Madelyn, Keep up the Awesome job! Your strength is inspiring and we are all here cheering you on along you way!

Continued thanks goes out to all of you who are keeping Maddy in your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate everything that you have done and are continuing to do to help us out. Thank you!

For those who are waiting for the Kitty Girl adventure to continue....just a little longer.

Let's live our day today, with the strength and determination of Madelyn Johnson!

Giving Thanks

Being Sunday, as many of you are off to church we think of how blessed we are,and about giving thanks for life.
Growing up, every Sunday our church was the Pioneer Cafe. It was time spent together and I believe it was an understanding that happened....we were thankful for the time we had together....and the extra whipped cream on our cocoa! : )

So, wherever you give thanks for being alive, whether it be in a temple, a church, or a cafe, please keep Madelyn in your thoughts today. It is truly a miracle that she is alive and I for one, am so completely and sincerely THANKFUL! I am actually brought to tears at the very thought of how amazing Madelyn is. To be so strong and to never give up! Maddy, YOU inspire me to live my days as fully as possible! Thank YOU Maddy for being SO brave!!

Yesterday, Madelyn's Infectious Disease doctor was at the hospital and when he came into Maddy's room he was completely blown away by seeing Madelyn! One, he could not believe she was even alive because he had never seen a kid come in that sick and live! And Two, to see her progressing so well is incredible. This speaks volumes to the very special person Maddy is and that her life was spared because we needed her here to fill our days with chatter about butterflies, bugs, kitties, and motorcycles. Oh, and frog bay too!

Maddy is continuing on her way. She continues to live in the ICU unit as her lungs heal and she works on becoming stronger. She was taken off her ventilator, yet on oxygen for about an hour to begin her lung function testing and healing. They will continue to do these kinds of tests as her numbers continue to improve. Other than that, her numbers are staying pretty much the same and we are happy about that! Way to go Maddy!!!!

We are thankful for each of you, our extended family who have prayed, fed, and loved with the very best of you! Thank you for always keeping a special place in your heart for our Maddy. We also ask you to continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as you move through your day.

My heart overflows with gratitude for Madelyn Marie Johnson being in our lives.

Madelyn the Great!

Thank you for logging on once again to monitor the progress of our Madelyn. We so appreciate all of your loving, supporting words. It's not only comforting to Maddy, but to the entire family. Thank you.

Madelyn had a very exiting day yesterday!!! She received a small, talking computer device that she can type in what she wants to say, and it speaks it for her! Very Cool! Yet, another reason we LOVE Sacred Heart. Thank you!
Madelyn also received a super special gift from her Dad's Friend's Rod & Kristen and his entire family....an new laptop computer with web cam & all the bells and whistles for helping her in communicating and playing with her webkinz. Awesome! Thank you!!

Maddy's numbers are hanging tough today. About the same as all week, which is awesome and we are very happy & grateful for. She's continuing to show us all how very strong she is, which is no surprise at this point because we know that she ROCKS!!!!!

We continue to give our sincere thanks to all of you. The support at Sacred Heart is truly amazing. From the comfort that is given through a warm bed so they don't have to
sleep too far away, to the warm socks for Maddy....Thank you!!!!
Continued thanks to all of you.....our family & friends who do so much in so many ways. Thank you!!!!

Here's to our Madelyn the GREAT! Thank YOU Maddy for working SO hard for us! We know how much you want to be well and you work incredibly hard each hour of your day to fight to get there. We love you and are cheering you on all along the way. Keep up the Awesome job Mad!

*No new adventures just yet today. Will need to wait for the Kitty Girl Saga to unfold....after auntie sharla finishes her napa wedding. : )

Kitty Girl Power

I hope that as you are logging on to Maddy's blog you are taking a moment to remind yourself of what a wonderful day it is and how lucky we are to have our lives touched by Madelyn. Thank you Madelyn, for reminding us the meaning of love and strength....and that miracle still happen!
This morning Maddy is doing much better. That Mad of ours knew why she as sick and she was able to communicate the she thought her feeding tube was in her esophagus. Sure enough the x-ray reveled that to be true. They moved it down to the right spot and bingo! She's all set now and feeling much better. Her peep is @ 6 w/ the O2 at 35% and her sats are in the mid to high 80's this morning. Her and her sister Mallory are playing their the DS games and hanging out this morning as Maddy gears up for more physical therapy. Maddy is SO strong and we are SO proud of her!!!!
Yesterday Maddy received some new gifts from the Wishes program at Sacred Heart. New games and super cute socks for her super cute-sparkly toes. Thank you Sacred Heart for continuing to support Maddy and our family. You can view the video at : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUo_tgNmYk0

Again, thank you for continuing to keep Madelyn in your thoughts and prayers. If you feel more comfortable sending a private message to Maddy you can email her at kittygirlmaddy@gmail.com. ( your auntie sure does love you Maddy! xoxo )

“ I can’t look!!!!……
Whirlwind of Illness has grabbed hold of Vallory Van Vohnson’s magical guitar and it looks as though he’s going to succeed in stealing it away. We don’t want that magical guitar to end up in the hands of the evil, Whirlwind of Illness!!! ( the crowd gasps! Ooohhhhhh!!!! )

Oh….My….Goodness, Ladies & Gentlemen!!!! If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that I see Cocoa Puff riding on the back of a…. a….A CAT! What?!?!!?
Could it really be Acrobat Alice, the Trapeze Cat?!??!
Cocoa Puff the hamster must have sent another telepathic message that the Johnson Girls were in trouble over here at the Sacred Heart Dome. Acrobat Alice is twirling and spinning…..and jumping & dancing around the ring. Whirlwind of Illness is mesmerized by her dance. So mesmerized that he does not notice that Cocoa Puff is about to unleash his POPSICLE POWER!!! Just then, Vallory Van Vohnson takes control and again, lays down an even more powerful riff on her guitar! Then, Kitty Girl Johnson lands a powerful left uppercut! **ME*0oo0WwwZZzzAAaa** Whirlwind of Illness is down once again, Ladies & Gentlemen! 1… 2…. 3…..
And, if that wasn’t bad enough for the Whirlwind of Illness, Acrobat Alice is now kneading her claws on his back! Way to go Acrobat Alice, Way to go! PPPRRRRrrrr…….Acrobat Alice is so very happy! She’s happiest when she is defending her Johnson Girls. “

*Ding-Ding: “Round Nine is starting off strong for Kitty Girl Johnson! Vallory Van Vohnson however, is still on tour in Tokyo promoting her latest, chart-topping album and must leave for a short while. This is what happens when you are an American Idol winner!
Kitty Girl is showing off her trapeze skills, taught to her by Acrobat Alice as she climbs up to the top rope of the ring to pounce on the Whirlwind of Illness.
OH NOOOOOooo!!!!!!!!! ……. I don't want to watch!!!" ( the crowd are on their feet, covering their eyes ) OOOoooooHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!"

*Stay tuned for the continuing adventure of Kitty Girl Johnson

The Legend of Kitty Girl & Vallory Van Vohnson

Madelyn is continuing to show her amazing strength and ability to beat the odds that appeared to be stacked against her a little over three weeks ago. Maddy is Strong! Maddy is Brave! Maddy is Awesome!
Yesterday Madelyn was able to stand and take a few steps in physical therapy!!! This is especially incredible since she didn't have her vent on for about 30 seconds during this. AMAZING JOB MADDY!!! They have removed her pic-line and her peep is now @ 7 w/ the O2 @ 35%. She is continuing to initiate her own breaths too! Her sats continue to fluctuate from the high 80's to the mid 90's. Her lungs still have a way to go in their healing, but overall we are SO very grateful and Proud of Madelyn's accomplishments. We all feel for poor Mad because we understand that her lungs hurt and it's really hard to be stuck in the hospital. We understand that she would give anything to be able to talk our ear off once again and we anxiously, but patiently await the day to hear her fabulous stories about bugs, butterflies, cats, and motorcycles. We cheer her on every step of the way!

As usual, we want to thank all of you who not only log on to share your love and well wishes with Maddy. And, for each of you who take a moment out of your day to say a silent prayer for our Kitty Girl! Thank you to everyone at Sacred Heart. Your love, which comes through in so many ways, is greatly appreciated. Thank YOU, FAMILY!

* Just a side note, Maddy has been feeling kinda crummy this morning with an upset tummy from the change in her feeding stuff. If you need to reach Kara & Bob, please make all calls to Bob's cell # 701.1790. Kara is needing some quiet time with Maddy to help calm her while she's feeling so bad and we want to respect that as much as possible. Thank you so much for your care & concern, we really appreciate it....and we appreciate you! Thank you.

Now, on to more important things.....It's time to bring yet another SMILE to our Maddy's face! Oh, and yes. Maddy ate a grape popsicle! Mmmmm....

*********************************************

"Ladies & Gentlemen, Do you hear that??!?!" ( Hot Pink Smoke and Glitter fill the Sacred Heart Dome )
Kitty Girl Johnson takes a moment to look up from the pummeling she's doing on Whirlwind of Illness as her face lights up like a Christmas tree.
As the smoke & glitter clears the Sacred Heart Dome, it is replaced by the ear piercing guitar solo!!!! "Look!!! Over there!!!! I cannot believe my eyes...and ears! Ladies & Gentlemen! It's the world famous, Vallory Van Vohnson with her legendary, magical guitar!
Now, what you may not know is that Vallory Van Vohnson is the younger sister of Kitty Girl Johnson! Her magical guitar sends supersonic, ear-piercing tunes into the ears of anyone who comes to terrorize her sister. Cocoa Puff was able to send a super telepathic message to Vallory while she was on tour. She hopped on her super-charged motorcycle and blasted her way to the Sacred Heart Dome to help her sister in the knock-out of her life!"

*Ding-Ding: "It's the bottom of Round 8 Ladies & Gentlemen and Whirlwind of Illness is trying to get on his feet after Kitty Girl Johnson crushed her writing board over his head. Yup. It did leave a mark. His head now reads, Kitty Girl was here! Ouch!
Cocoa Puff is simply beside himself with the arrival of Vallory Van Vohnson. Vallory Von Vohnson enters the ring, with her supersonic guitar in hand. She takes a stance and burns out some pretty powerful riffs on her electric guitar! Whirlwind of Illness is running around the ring like a crazy man! What!??! Are those tears in his eyes Ladies & Gentlemen???? Whirlwind of Illness is crying like a baby! WhhAAaaHHhhh! He's begging Vallory Van Vohnson to stop! Kitty Girl & Vallory explode into laughter. This is going to be way too easy!!!! Nothing can stop this dynamic duo in taking down The Whirlwind of Illness!
Oh NOOOooooo!!!!! ( the crowd jumps to their feet!!! ) Whirlwind of Illness has grabbed onto the supersonic guitar! Will he be stopped? Will Vallory Van Vohnson & Kitty Girl Johnson be able to fight off the Whirlwind of Illness??? I can't look Ladies & Gentlemen! I can't!!!!"

* Stay tuned for the continuing adventure of the Johnson Girls.
